Weight Management Support and Medication – Important Information

Posted by: melanied1 - Posted on:

We’ve had several enquiries following recent news coverage about weight loss medications being available on the NHS. Here’s what you need to know:

• People living in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Royston can access a community weight management service, offering support with diet, physical activity and lifestyle changes.

• To be referred, please speak to your GP practice. If appropriate, they will refer you to the service best placed to support you.

⚠️ Access to Weight Loss Medications (Tirzepatide & Semaglutide)

These medications are only being offered in very specific cases during the first phase of the NHS roll-out (up to April 2026).

You must meet all of the following to be eligible for referral at this time:

• A BMI of 40+ (or 37.5+ for people from certain ethnic backgrounds)

• PLUS four of these diagnosed conditions:

– Type 2 diabetes

– High blood pressure

– Heart disease

– Obstructive sleep apnoea

– Abnormal blood fats

If you do not meet this criteria, please do not contact the practice about weight loss injections, as we are unable to prescribe them.
